Our youngest players are introduced to First Touch as Kickers. They are invited to be part of our organisation where, we hope, they will stay with us for the next 4 to 5 years and become better footballers, make new friends and have great fun. Coaching takes place each Wednesday night and is indoors at Gourock High School.
Children at this age are highly capable of learning skills and absorbing information. They have a strong desire to learn, and they do so by watching and imitating. Our coaching programme introduces them to a variety of structured exercises so they can experience a broad range of movements both on and off the ball.
At the Kickers, having fun is a priority; we want our players to enjoy each coaching session and we want to challenge them to learn by using age appropriate drills and exercises.
Each coaching session consists of a warm up, a core session and then a cool down. Warm ups mainly comprise of ball handling techniques, tricks and turns. The core sessions are more focused on dribbling, passing and shooting, and the cool down will usually be games of 4v4 and/or 3v3.
Normally by the end of their first year, the Kickers are ready to progress to First Touch with the benefit of at least one year’s coaching and be familiar with some of our coaches. They will progress through a four year development programme and, in general, will remain within their respective age groups but there may be exceptions made to this rule.
