This is the first of the four groups within the main coaching programme at First Touch. The players are coached twice a week outdoors (Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings) at the Battery Park, Greenock.
The coaching is divided into four specific age appropriate phases where the players will continue to work on the basic skills of passing, shooting and dribbling.
Players are introduced to 7 a side games against other teams and may also participate in competitions. These games are played with the development of the player being a priority, at the expense of wholly focusing on winning the game.
At this stage of the players’ development they begin to learn about playing matches, trying out different positions and building up their knowledge of the game.
Coaching sessions continue to consist of a warm up, core session and then a cool down. Warm ups will consist of moving with the ball and trying to master tricks and turns which they were introduced to as Kickers. The main session will be focused on whichever phase of training they are at i.e. shooting, dribbling or passing. Cool downs are usually small sided games.
