On Saturday 2nd June 2007 First Touch set out on our annual 5 mile stroll
from Battery Park Pavilion to Lunderston Bay to raise funds for the club.
Players , coaches, parents, grannies, friends, babies in buggies and dugs
on leads left the Battery at 11 am following a short but rousing exhortation
from M.C Jim Black. It was an overcast but mild morning as Group 2 boys
set the early pace stopping
only to pose for pics for our resident photographer, Jeremy Burrows. As
the walkers passed through Gourock we were encouraged not just by passing
shoppers but by some of the parents transporting barbecue equipment and
supplies to prepare for the splendid nosh awaiting our arrival to Lunderston
Bay.
A battery of blazing barbecues expertly tended by parents, rows of tables
laden with buttered rolls, trays of tomato pasta, lasagne, baked potatoes,
sandwiches, coleslaw, cakes, crisps and juice awaited the hungry hordes.
Undeterred by the voracious midges boys and parents played football, rugby,
head tennis or sat at the picnic tables and bantered. A series of races
for players and parents followed handicapped by overfull stomachs (the
boys) and decrepitude (the parents) which proved highly entertaining to
the massed audience and bemused public even the tide paused for a closer
look!
All too soon the packing up and tidying brought a very enjoyable and successful
day to an end. Everyone had played their part to provide a superb meal
and fun day with the shared aim of helping First Touch to prosper.
We raised more than £2,000.00 which we shall continue to invest
in the development of our coaching and purchase of equipment.
