First
Touch 3rd Cappielow Football Festival
Following a very stormy night and an early morning inspection, Cappielow
passed its fitness test to allow First Touch to host the third of our
Football Festivals in the past 12 months. We fielded two teams each from
Groups 1 and 2, who faced opposition from Kilmarnock FC, Kildrum United,
Drumchapel Boys Club, Ardencaple Boys Club and local team, Port Glasgow
Boys Club. Our boys had mixed fortunes on the day, often showing encouraging
displays of good passing/moving but occasionally finding it tough against
opponents who were physically stronger and with more match practice under
their belts.
Highlights of the day for us were a thrilling 2-1 win against Kilmarnock
A under 12 team, and a 1-1 draw against the senior club’s under
11 A team. It would be remiss of us not to mention a top drawer goal by
Jack McLarty who clinically executed a near post header from a corner,
to rapturous applause from the appreciative crowd of around 300. Although
results did not always go our way, the day gave our players and coaches
much to take away from the experience.
Thanks to everyone who supported the event, and to the parent helpers
and our referees . Special thanks to the event sponsors, Baronial Properties.
